I don’t believe in complaining, first, because Scripture warns against it, and second, because it rarely addresses the root of a problem.
In Philippians 2:14–15 we are instructed: “Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation. Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky.”
Biblically, the fastest path to spiritual dullness is through complaining.
In Numbers 11:1 we read: “Now the people began to complain about their hardships in the hearing of the Lord, and when He heard them, His anger was aroused.”
Complaining aroused God’s anger!!!
Scripture makes it clear that complaining can bring judgment, as we see in 1 Corinthians 10:10: “And do not grumble, as some of them did, and were killed by the destroying angel.”
The Apostle James warned that grumbling leads to judgment, writing in James 5:9: “Do not grumble against one another, brothers and sisters, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!”
Complaining displeases God, reflects a lack of faith, and can distort even good people into something they are not. Instead, choose gratitude: give thanks, rely on Christ, focus on God’s goodness, and above all, flee from pride and envy while showing kindness and appreciation toward others.
Life is difficult for everyone. The Lord knows my journey has been filled with many challenges, moments when I felt the urge to complain. Yet, because I walk with Him, I have never been truly alone. As Scripture promises in Hebrews 13:5: “I will never leave you nor forsake you.”
Rather than complain, act. If you find yourself unable to act, let it be a call to grow your faith in God’s power.
