An honest thought…
The strength of any institution lies in its faculty, yet promotion and compensation systems have failed to keep pace with economic realities and evolving academic contributions. Inflation has eroded salaries, while rigid promotion criteria—such as requiring an international reputation for full professorship—overlook the immense value of teaching excellence, institutional leadership, and community engagement.
To sustain our institutions, we must modernize faculty advancement by adjusting compensation for the rising cost of living and recognizing a broader spectrum of academic achievements. Without change, we risk demotivating talented educators and diminishing the quality of education. Now is the time to create a more just and forward-thinking framework that values all faculty contributions.
If salary increases aren’t realistic, the path to full professorship must be made more accessible, as it may be the only opportunity for faculty to receive a well-deserved raise.
“A great professor isn’t just an educator—they are the heartbeat of an institution, inspiring students to enroll, stay, and thrive. Investing in exceptional faculty isn’t just good academia; it’s good business.” 🙂
